Text Box: Your pet’s health is extremely important to us at Edgewood Animal Clinic. A good preventative health care program is essential in ensuring your pet is with you for many long, healthy years. For the past year or two, we have been researching many different recommendations in vaccine, heartworm, and intestinal parasite prevention protocols in order to make sure that your pets are receiving the best of care. After much careful consideration, we are making some changes in our basic wellness care recommendations.
There has been much talk about changing vaccine protocols in the past several years. Our decisions have been based on the recommendations of the AVMA, AAHA, and other national organizations, as well as tailored to the prevalence of diseases we are seeing in our Text Box: area and the lifestyles of our clients and their pets. As a result, you will notice less of a “one size fits all” approach and will see that our recommendations will be based on your pet’s individual risk factors. To help us identify the best program for your pet, we will be asking you to fill out a short questionnaire when you arrive for an annual exam visit. A summary of what questions you should be prepared to answer is on the back of this newsletter. We are excited to be adding a new, three year distemper-adenovirus-parvo vaccine to our arsenal.

Text Box: Last fall we premiered the “beta test version” of our new website. After a little practice, we think we have the hang of it and we also have a new, easy to remember address: www.edgewood

Included on the website are directions to the clinic, info on Text Box: hours of business and emergency care; links to related info, and an “information page” which includes some of our handouts as well as our new client and surgery authorization forms. A “What’s New” page keeps you up to date on today’s issues, some of which you may have seen in the news. There Text Box: are even pages to remember pets who have passed away, and a page of pictures of some of our patients. More in depth info on our changing protocols can also be found. Be sure to save us to your favorites file and check in often! We hope to update the page with each change of season.

addition, we hope they will streamline our program and eliminate some confusion regarding when to test and what to do if a pill is missed.  In addition, we will be stressing the importance of intestinal parasite control.  These parasites are in many cases transmissible to humans, so a good wellness care program is essential for the health of your entire family.

Our flea control recommendations have not changed significantly for this year, but we will be reminding you what you should be doing to avoid problems later!
